Grid & Markers

Post  maree - AD on Wed Mar 19, 2008 5:05 pm

Hey all,

In regards to the grid, art directors & designers are currently working on the magazines markers. Once approved, the grid will be sent out to everyone in an InDesign file for you to use for your layouts. The guides will be locked in the A master page, so make sure this page is applied to all your layout pages (go to the pages tab drag and drop the A master onto the document pages). To preview your layout without guides, hit ctrl +; (pc) or option + ; (mac).

Third draft layout for week 5

Post  Julia Park on Thu Mar 20, 2008 6:57 pm

Dear all,
Please revise your layouts to the designated number of pages. Make sure to print at 100% with trim and bleed marks.
Don't forget to bring along all imagery that you are working on including photos you have taken etc.
Happy designing! JUL

Markers

Post  aNNALISE on Fri Mar 21, 2008 11:49 am

We are thinking of placing the markers in the middle of the right hand margin.

Ideas suggestions from the designers would be most appreciated.

Hey Annalise,

Im liking the old school dymo marker. I actually have one of those so if we we gonna go that way we could maybe scan in a real one...

marker

Post  maree - AD on Fri Mar 21, 2008 12:39 pm

cool, well the one i have is my pops so its pretty old...actually it suffs up every now and them and puts a funny mark on the label so that would probably go down nicely with the whole theme! I think i have green, yellow red blue and black tape but id have to check.
What would you think of having that run down the whole side of the margin, right on the edge of the paper?

Possible Marker Styles

Post  Serryn - Design on Fri Mar 21, 2008 5:06 pm

***Copied from AD Forum as Requested***

Hi ya,

Below are some of the Pantone tear swatches (sometimes referred to as 'chips' or 'tabs') we were talking of implementing as part of the page navigation in the right hand margin or bottom margin. I thought it might be helpful to post up a couple of examples to give you a better idea of what I was proposing....

The 2 examples with the torn perforations is most preferable as it has that slightly 'unfinished' look that we want to communicate thematically throughout the sample publication. Sorry about the fish and the dinosaur, couldn't find just an image of the perforated type without the accompanying animals, heaters etc Smile .

The second image is a Pantone fabric swatch, still looks neat, but not as rough as the perforated type.

Anyhow let me know what you think...

P.S. Does anyone know where we can get a bunch of these (the perforated type), or even just a few?

Cheers,

Serryn.

I like the first idea of having a sample of an image from each article, although im not entirely sure what is meant by the old school dymo marker.
I also think hand written ones might look good to make the magazine have a more personal, rough kind of feel to it.

dymo markers

Post  maree - AD on Sun Mar 23, 2008 8:01 am

Just going with the dymo idea - This is a scan of a label i made with a dymo maker, i have blue & yellow tape but ive made this one black. I though we could make one label with all the numbers then bring it into photoshop to make the page numbers (see example below).
I think it would look good running the whole length of the page.
What do you think?

Dymo Tape - I dig it

Post  Serryn - Design on Sun Mar 23, 2008 12:43 pm

Yep really like this, I like the work around with the page numbers too....

Would be great if we could get a grater range of colour, I see that the embossed tape is still made by Dymo:

http://global.dymo.com/enCA/LabelType/Embossing_Tapes.html

and available amongst others via these guys in sydney: www.embossingtapesupplies.com.au/

Cheers,

Serryn.
